Child Centered Play Therapy
Child Centered Play Therapy or CCPT is a form of non-directive play therapy that centers on the belief that children possess an inherent capacity to progress towards enhancing their self-structure, emotions, and behavior.
CCPT has four phases:
Warm Up Stage: Getting comfortable in the play room; beginning to explore.
Aggressive Stage: Trust and safety has been built enough so that child begins to shift behaviors and emotions in session.
Regressive Stage: Fully developed trust and safety with therapist that allows for exploration and expression of deeper level core issues.
Mastery: Improved problem solving, increased competence, and mastery of fears/ anxieties/ traumas.
During CCPT, your child will lead the session. I will work to track thoughts and behaviors. This will help your child explore and process what they are thinking and feeling while also building rapport and attunement with me.
Outside of your child’s session, we will have parenting meetings to review progress, concerns, and allow for teaching moments.
